Right but you can get them by county. How many birthing hospitals are in each of your counties? I assume some of them have more then one but not all of them. So if you have one hospital is say Platt county and the c section rate for that county is xyz, then you would know that is also the rate for that particular hospital.

In our county we have 7 I think and 2 in the next county over that are frequented by those in our county as well. I'm in the biggest city in the state, we have lots of babies.

I remember from ICAN that not every state makes this information easily available or for public consumer use.
In NY birth advocates worked hard to get this available and easy to understand. It's very detailed all the info you would need to know about a hospital and if it supports the way you want to give birth.

This is one of our popular hospitals in my county and how the state on their website gives consumers the break down.
very, very helpful.

The hospitals here do allow VBAC's and the OBGYN who performed my c-section told me afterwards that I am a prime candidate for one. However, HBAC's are also allowed here in the Denver area so that's what I'll be aiming for when the time comes.

VBACs and HBACs are allowed in Virginia. Where I am located, there are practices that say they participate in VBACs but turn out to have a different story at 38 weeks. There is one particular provider who is most-recommended around here as the VBAC "guy" (he is also the backup doctor for the most popular homebirth CNM in the area), and almost everyone goes to him. We also have one CPM who will do primary VBACs at home.

There are no hospitals that ban VBACs, but there are several that have an appallingly low VBAC rate.
In NJ you have to hunt around for an OB or midwife who truly supports VBAC (and not merely tolerates it) but there are several good care providers out there who truly support VBACs and you can find them if you look.
It is not legal in NJ for a midwife to attend a HBAC birth.

Our local hospital has a de facto VBAC ban and you won't find a provider in town that will do one. I The closest hospitals that do VBACs are 45 minutes away and only one of them is actually VBAC friendly, the other only has one or two providers that will attend them. The hospital I delivered at has CNMs, but they aren't allowed to attent VBACs due to not being able to perform a c/s should the need arise. Fortunately I went so fast that the OB on-call wasn't able to get there in time and the CNM I had seen up to 36 weeks and loved just happened to be on-call that night and got to deliver It makes me very sad that all the women locally just go with the repeat c/s because they are IMO uneducated about the options and don't really want to go through the hassle of driving 45 minutes away to deliver. I will have to look, but our local hospital probably has a fairly high c/s rate. I will look around and see what I can find. This is in Minnesota BTW and the VBAC friendly hospitals are in North Dakota. There is also a CPM that will attend HBACs. I have been hearing a lot about her recently.

Okay, I found it. The c/s rate for the hospital that does NOT allow VBACS in 2009 was 35%, primary rate 14% and repeat rate....93%!! I didn't find the VBAC rate for Minnesota.
The c-section rate for the hospital that DOES allow VBAC was 27% in 2009.

I am in Florida. As far as VBAC in hospitals go it really depends on the hospital. The smaller ones tend to have a VBAC ban due to not having immediately anesthesia available. Some have defacto bans because the doctors that deliver at that hospital don't do them.
We have Licensed Midwives and per the midwifery law they are able to attend women having vbacs provided that they consult a backup physician. There are a few physicians around the state that will do this. Women with a previous successful vbac don't need to consult as long as their risk score (outlined in the rule) remains 2 or under.
VBACs are not allowed in the birth centers here. They were previously under a study but that study closed years ago. We are trying to get the rule changed to allow them in birth centers with the same consult required for HBACs. The agency is trying to just ban them from birth centers permanently.

34% of births are cesarean in Michigan, according to this article. *shakes head*

I am in western North Dakota -- two years ago the answer was absolutely NO WAY, no VBACs except at the two major hospitals in the state, and those were iffy.
Now where I am, they say they are starting to look at VBACs again, but they give moms such a crazy series of hoops to jump through, it isn't promising. I just had a mom who was 20 years old, healthy, and told absolutely not after she did every bob and weave they asked for. (To top it off, they made fun of her in the hospital for considering a home VBAC when she was denied by the hospital.)
Our homebirth midwife will do VBACs, though, so that is an option here, at least for some.

The birth center where I work (in Oregon) offers VBACs.
