 Birth Certificate for Unassisted homebirth

Greetings! I have a mom who wants to have an unassisted home birth in MA, or find a midwife in MA who will do a home birth. Here in Maine midwives are welcomed and respected, but she seems to think that in Massachusettes they're not licensed and cannot attend.

Her two questions are: how to find a homebirth midwife in her state, and how to get a birth certificate if she has an unassisted birth?

thanks!
Quinn

Hi well what happens if baby born at home before some one is able to phone an ambulance or midwife?

they must have a way of getting them then. either that day or the following day.

in the uk a midwife would check mum and baby over and issue the documents easyly with out toomuch fuss, in the states im not so srue what the policy is but if your snowed in and gave birth and it took a week to be able to get out the house what then?

find out from your local registrars office who needs to issue the paper work and take it from their

In MA they are not liscenced, but practice pretty openly. A google search would turn up homebirth midwives. As far as the unassisted BC, she can call whatever the MA equivalent of Vital Records is and go from there. As a doula, I don;t think this kind of homework should necessarily be your job.
