Forgive me if I'm not posting in the right area. I'm new to being a doula, haven't yet attended a birth (just took my workshop in April). I have a client (a friend) who would like me to be her doula, due in January. She thinks she'll be using a midwife this time. She was wondering if I attend prenatal visits with her. She's married, but sometimes works long hours or is out of town. Is this something that some doulas have done?? Thanks!

I have on occasion if it seemed right. I would think it would be an excellent education opportunity for you to attend some of her prenatal visits with her midwife. I probably would not go to every one but if she asked I would attend a couple. It will give you a chance to meet her midwife and you two start forming a relationship, you might get referred to some of the midwive's other clients you never know! Networking is huge in doula work.
