Where do you fall on your fee for your encapsulation services?

$200 but frequently slide down to $150 or even $100 if they need, occasionally even pro-bono. doula clients get 50% off but i am thinking of changing that to just 25% off soon. i'm also very open to payment plans, barter or trade services for services. i have a $25 off coupon coming out soon in our local mama-baby coupon book so i'm sure a lot of my clients will be using that soon too.

on a side note can i just get this off of my chest for a second... i did my first half dozen or so placentas for free so i could gain the experience, then i charged just $75 - $100 for a while till my husband said it wasn't worth from a financial perspective. i absolutely hate that my service fees are now something that i couldn't really afford (doula fees too) and work really hard to make it affordable for those who need it. last week i saw a posting on my local craigslist - it was a placenta "specialist" with absolutely no experience (how they can pretend to specialize in something they've never tried before is beyond me) CHARGING $250!!! ARE THEY FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?!?! what happened to earning your credibility first??? its the same as the fresh-from-her-weekend-training doula who started charging $800 right out of the gate! who are these people and where did they get the idea that its totally acceptable to see pregnant women as just their cash cow? grrrrrrr.

ok, rant over. sorry for hijacking.

I <3 you :squeeze.

Vent away! I understand :O)

I did a few births free as a doula and then did a few more births for a nominal fee. I still have clients telling me I'm not charging enough.

When I started out doing placentas I did a few free and I still did some for a nominal cost, even barter. I did one yesterday for $50 and the mother is getting me a wish list of items from the health food store. She is very low in come.

I've done 8 placentas now, I think my fee for encapsulation is very reasonable. I think its only proper to give my doula clients a discount since they are already paying for another service of mine. I havent had a doula client yet not want their placenta encapsulated :dancing

It's important to me to make my fees affordable. I will also offer a payment plan, barter or trade for my services.

I'm charging $75 right now until I feel like I have more experience - that is covering my materials and start-up equipment costs. Then I think I will be in the range of $150 for local clients, $200 for those in the city and $100 for doula clients. Of course, as with my doula clients I'd offer a reduction of fee or bartering for those that need it.

I've only done one, and I charged $100, basically to cover my expenses.. I didn't make anything off of it, but it didn't cost me anything. I would like to charge $150, but for now I'll stay around $100. Actually, I may not do another placenta, given the area I'm in, in a very long time :)

You may be surprised. I dont live in a natural birth state and I've got 2-3 placentas for March, 1 for May, 1 for July, 1 for August.

Email other doulas, CBE's and Midwives in your area and let them know you are offering this service :O)

I didn't notice this poll was in the placenta forum. Being in New York, I know we charge a little more for doula services, but I thought those prices were ridiculous!

I use a sliding scale from 175-300. I'm about ready to toss the idea. I've had several choose the low end that clearly didn't "need" to slide down. So frustrating to see the big screen tv, two newer cars in the driveway, brand new house, etc and then only get paid the minimum. I keep it though because there have been a handfull that probably couldn't have afforded it if I hadn't been able to slide down.

Then maybe list your price as $250 and then if someone wants it they will ask you if have a sliding scale, barter or do payments. Adjust as needed.

I encapsulated three placentas so far. The first one I did for 30, second and third for 70. I am planning on charging 100 for my fourth and 150 for my fifth. Then I will see how things go from there.

I charge $200, $250 if it's more than an hour away (I'm popular in Northeast Philly for some reason). I charge $100 for L's clients b/c that's what she charges them (and she usually does them lol).

I charge $200 now because of rising gas prices. I'm in a very rural town (there are no hospitals in my town, which most my clients have a hospital birth) and the main hospital where most my clients give birth is 35 miles from me. So not too bad, but just going there takes a whole tank of gas in my car. I do 25% off of breastfeeding clients (not clients who breastfeed, clients who use me as their breastfeeding counselor) and 25% off of CBE clients. I'm not currently doing Doula work, but that should change this coming fall, and that will also be 25% off. I also have coupons with my business cards for 10% off at a local natural parenting store, so if you pick one up there you get teh coupon. I accept all sorts of payment plans. I have a woman who I've encapsulated in February and she's paying me in installments of $20 a month. I'm totally fine with that.
