I'm thinking about purchasing something like this utility apron to wear to births. What do you think? Would it get in the way? Make me look like a home ec teacher? (yes, that probably just "dated" me :) I feel like I"m always setting down my phone or notebook and pen and then when intense labor come it's out of reach and I don't want to break mom's rhythm to get it in between contractions. Come on, who wants to hop on the doula's-wear-aprons train?

It's cute, it's just not me. I actually wear scrubs that look nothing like scrubs. Koi brand has some tops that are super cute and trendy and cargo style bottoms to store all my goodies...plus, they are super comfy!

I like the idea of "scrubs" that don't look like "scrubs".

It's really cute, but I feel it would get in the way, or stuff would be dropping out every time I leaned over. I, too, wear cargo-style scrub bottoms and fitted t-shirts. I don't document anything as a doula during a birth, so the only thing I need to keep track of is my cell phone and change purse.

Thats way too girly for me. I do have something like that though in my birth bag just in case I end up a birth with no pockets.

I guess I'm often pocket-less, which is why this appealed to me. :) That said, I definitely could envision things falling out of the pockets on this thing. Good point Jen!

Can someone link me to a pic of your scrub like pants?

I would. In fact, I have looked at this apron in the past and considered buying it. I often (almost always) wear black yoga pants to births, because 1. they don't show blood/amniotic fluid/ mec 2. Because I could be there for a couple of days and I want to be comfy. Yoga pants dont have pockets, and I find wearing an apron (that I can take off if I need to) really helps when I'm attending a birth as a doula or midwifes assistant. I have one I use now, but I want to get one a little more suited to my needs.
