Do any of you ladies run a prenatal support group in your city? I'd like to start one here, as I don't think we have anything like that, but I'm not sure where to start. Where do you host it? Is it just a drop in event that women come and go as they please? Do you have a topic you cover each week? Guest speakers?

A birth colleague of mine started an event that she tagged as a "free monthly info-swap for pregnant women." Now my colleague has given birth to twins a month ago and I'm fostering the event for a while until she's ready to come back.

I rent a room (free) at the local library for the space. We have a monthly topic, with a guest speaker to present on that topic for 5-10 minutes. Only thing is he/she can't sell anything to the women, but just be sharing information. We open with introductions in a circle, initial questions, then the topic, a Q and A time for the presenter, and then back to general questions and closing. Light snacks (hummus, carrots, water, crackers, etc provided by me. I actually asked another local doula to co-host, with the unpredictability of births, wouldn't want to see this event get cancelled last minute. Some upcoming topics include cloth diapering, VBAC, prenatal and infant massage, and midwives.
I'd be glad to answer any specific questions you have!

Sounds similar to a Pregnancy/Birth/Mothering Support Network I work with: Dar a Luz Network. It's a non-profit organization with about 10 different chapters. A midwife started it and many of the leaders are Doulas--they offer an accelerated leadership program for Doulas/CB professionals. It's free and they'll help you get a chapter started in your area.

check it out:

I've lead a Chapter on the East Coast for about 5 years. Happy to answer any specific questions.
Best wishes!
