I have been considering a CPM path for several years now. Based on my observations of the quality (or serious lack thereof) of various CPM pathways/schools and my personality, I think if I choose this route I will opt for a combination of an apprenticeship (a local CPM has been asking me to apprentice with her for two years now ~ I know, how lucky is that and how crazy am I for not jumping on it) and attending the distance program through Midwives College of Utah. First, though, I am working hard with an advocacy group to achieve licensing for CPMs in my state, which will go a long way toward my comfort level to be able to say I am a LICENSED midwife.

I am a CPM student at Birthwise in Maine. I started in August and I will finish the didactic portion here at the school next spring. Then I will move on to my full-time preceptorship. I agree--no perfect path, but I must say that being in school with deadlines and classes every week is right for me! I can't believe how much I have already learned. I'm looking into ncm? I have a preceptor ready and willing when I do enroll. It's just a lot of money for me to come up with right now!
