I ran across this quote about why you'd want to hire a doula when you have a husband to be your coach: Quote: “Asking your husband to be your sole guide through labor is like asking him to lead the way the on a climb of Mt. Everest. He may be smart and trustworthy, you may love him, but in the Himalayas you’d both be a lot better off with a Sherpa!” It just struck me as oh-so-true! Anyone else have any of these little gems?

Thanks that's lovely.
I don't have any, but my last birth was for a friend of a friend. I knew her, but not WELL...
Anyway 2 days after the birth I asked if I could bother her to fill in an evaluation form for me, she responded, 'I'd give you a kidney!', then when her Dh arrived 20 minutes later she said to him, 'Look the chosen one is here'.
LMAO. I guess that means she found me helpful. :wiggle:wiggle
That has really made me feel good about what I do. :banana:banana

Some others I like are: "Childbirth is a natural procedure, not a medical event." "Childbirth is a natural process, not a medical crisis waiting to happen." "Childbirth is not a disease." "We have a secret in our culture and it's not that birth is painful. It's that women are strong." (my favorite, and I'm buying a Tshirt with this one on it for childbirth classes)

I love quotes in general - occasionally when I get time I go surfing the net for them - If you check my doulanet page you will find one - it changes each time you check the page from what I can tell. I have a whole document of them - not just necessarily birth ones.

I'm paraphrasing, and I have no idea where the quote originated or who said it, but I like it:
The right intervention in the right place is like a beautiful flower, appreciated and valued. But in the wrong place, it's just a weed.

I wanted to include inspirational or funny quotes (with credit, of course) on my website (when I get it up and running) as well as make up labour 'flash cards' for quick pick-me-ups for flagging spirits in long labours or in those first few overwhelming days postpartum.
So, what are your favorite quotes, mantras, saying, what have you?

Here is a thread with some great quotes in it. If you search for threads with "quotes" in the title I think there may be a few others. I hope this helps!!!

My favorite quote is on my business cards and comes from Kim Wildner's Mother's Intention book:
"Good, bad, fair or unfair every choice you make affects the outcome of your birth! There are no inconsequential actions."

Hey all,
I'm trying to spice up my webpage with positive energy towards birth. Anyone know any fabulous quotes or interesting facts about birth, women, and/or doulas?? I appreciate the help!

My absolute favorite one is: Babies are bits of stardust blown from the hand of God; lucky is the woman who knows the pangs of birth for she has held a star.

Here are some more quotes:
The power and intensity of your contractions cannot be stronger than you, because it is you.
~Unknown
If I don't know my options, I don't have any.
~Diana Korte
You are constructing your own reality with the choices you make...or don't make. If you really want a healthy pregnancy and joyful birth, and you truly understand that you are the one in control, then you must examine what you have or haven't done so far to create the outcome you want.
