I just want to say that I am officially a Henna Muse convert. Jen has excellent henna that stains beautifully and smells amazing!!! The shipping is cheaper and faster- I ordered Monday and received it Thursday! Thanks Jen! I HIGHLY recommend ordering from her. :thumbs

The most important thing about henna on baby-bellies is that you need to know what essential oils are used, and that there's no other nasties in there. Lavender is the safest essential oil that will give good color in paste. Many factory made pastes are full of nasty preservatives and may even use solvents like kerosene instead of EOs!!!

Henna King is the Walmart of henna. They also offer a lot of products of questionable saftey. There are better options.
my store is here: HennaMuseShop.com I even have a special premix just for momma's to be here: Paste You can choose cones, bottles, or large amounts. Make sure to click the "pregnancy recipe" button on the product page!

Just so you know how serious I am about getting you good stuff and to get you dealing with a good seller, here is the list of all the 100% safe and natural, mom and pop (or just mom, I guess, the're all woman owned) henna suppliers. I maintain this list of my competitors because its more important to me that folks get good stuff and support good businesses than securing my own sale. (The HennaSupplier.org site is about to get an amazing face lift by the way. It will have lots of articles, forums, a public gallery, and much more in a few weeks time. I'll keep you all posted!)

I hope this helps!!!

Jen

Jen, what EO do u use in your basic Henna kit? I've seen lavender mentioned, but I am allergic to it. Are there other alternatives?

My daughter just hennaed my feet this weekend. She's really into it at she's a decent artist so I'd like to buy her a bigger kit than the 4gram one we picked up this weekend.

My basic kit has Cajeput oil in it. Its a close relative of eucalyptus but has a less intense scent IMO. If you order over the phone, I'm glad to offer substitutions.

Among the oils that help improve the color in henna body art, lavender is considered the mildest and most safe during pregnancy and for children in most cases. Tea Tree, geranium, and sweet basil are among other relatively mild oils that work. (Also Jasmine and Neroli of you've got lots of padding in your wallet!) You'll have to decide for yourself if any of those are appropriate for your body or medical conditions that you may have.

It is possible to create beautiful henna designs without any EOs at all. You just can't expect quite as deep of a color, or the design to last quite as long.

Thanks Jen.

We won't be using the henna on anyone but ourselves, so when I get ready to order I'll call you. Thank you for making and keeping this affordable for everyone!

Oh, she moved and got a new site. Here it is:
http://hennamuse.com/

Edited to add, oh I see she DID quit selling henna and henna products. Too bad. I still only order from the henna page but it was nice to have a good alternative. You can get what you need from Catherine here: http://www.mehandi.com/shop/

It is sad when a friend closes her business, but we hope she is off to do other wonderful things instead.
Henna Caravan is also an internet store and we welcome you to take a look at ours as well.
Have fun with henna

Do you use some kind of stencils for henna art or do you do it free hand? It's beautiful.

Free hand baby! There are stencils out there but I've heard they are really messy and a pain in the patooty. Use a cone and practice on yourself and family members.

I only ever buy from Henna Caravan - sometimes I even get little free extra goodies, like a little packet of body glitter or something, too! Love them, love them, love them. Can't praise what they do enough and I love sending people their way.
