I'm still in the process of certifying right now, but I have a feeling that my certification is going to fly by. I live in North Western Michigan is a city called Traverse City and there are no other doula's here. Which is really strange because it's a very progressive community with a good midwife community. Everyone that I have talked to in town, like CBE's and L&D nurse's are really excited to meet me and have a doula around and available. So I am going to start taking on my certifying births this month, but I really feel like I need to have some business ducks in a row before I do that. I think I should have my marketing plan, strategy and business name all put together from the get go so that I have a really rock solid branding and marketing. But I can't decide what to name the thing!!!! So many doula's have these really creative, nice names and every one the I think of just seems cheesy to me. One thing is that the business name and domain - Traverse City Doula are available, which is what I am leaning towards. But it's just so bloody boring. Pluses - it's easy to remember, easy to google, and flexible as the business may grow as I add services to my repitoure. Any advice for a new doula trying to name her business? Thanks! Jonelle

For me the only thing I could think of was Peaceful. So I'm Peaceful Birth Services (and also Peaceful Placenta Services). I kept thinking of ds2's homebirth and that was all that came to me. I'm very happy with it. I was going to do something like Nature's Medicine, but decided against it.

I chose Bywater Doula Services. Bywater is my husband's Mom's maiden name and a name we chose 7 years ago for his business (Bywater Companies). When I decided to start my doula business I thought of it because it's kind of a play on words, since of course I think water is so important in many births.

You could always grab that domain and have it forward to whatever you end up choosing. I choose Geek Girl Doula because it describes who I am and what I do. I'm a computer geek/nerd at heart
